Trade actions have made companies worried. Some big shops in the U.S. have already made prices higher, or said they will soon.
Donald Trump put taxes on many things coming into America. Some countries, like China, did the same. Some taxes are not as high now, but many are still there for businesses.
Companies pay taxes on things they buy from other countries. This can make prices higher for people. Some people think these taxes will help our country. But many things we buy come from all over the world. So, these taxes may make many things cost more.
Some shops have higher prices now. This is because of trade problems. Some big shops that cost more now are:
Walmart is the newest store on the list. On Thursday, Walmart said prices will go up because things cost more because of tariffs.
Walmart buys many things from America. But some things cost more now. This started in April and is getting worse. Things may cost a lot more in June and July when people buy things for school.
John, who works with money at the company, said that some things will cost more. For example, bananas from Costa Rica are now 54 cents, before they were 50 cents. Also, car seats from China at Walmart may cost $100 more.
"We always try to have low prices. But we can't do too much, and other shops can't either," Rainey said to the news.
The company that makes Barbie and Hot Wheels said they may need to charge more money because of new taxes.
The toy company makes some of its toys in China. It said prices may go up on May 5. This was before the U.S. and China made a deal to lower taxes for a short time. But taxes are still higher than before.
Mattel said they will make about 500 products in other countries instead of China this year. Last year, they did this for about 280 products. For some popular toys, they will use factories in more than one country.
In May, Microsoft made the price of Xbox consoles and controllers higher in many countries. For example, the Xbox Series S now costs $379.99 in the U.S. It was $299.99 before. The Xbox Series X now costs $599.99. It was $499.99 before.
Microsoft said in May that the changes are hard. They said it was because of "market conditions" and that making things costs more money.
Microsoft said the price of Xbox will change in Europe, the U.K., and Australia. Prices in other countries will also change. Some new games from Microsoft will cost more this year, about $80.
Last month, Temu and Shein said prices will go up. They said this is because of new rules about trade.
In late April, prices went up for many things, especially before May 2. This was because of a rule about cheap goods from China. Shops used this rule for a long time. Now, the U.S. and China made a deal to make it a little easier. But these goods still have taxes. If they come by mail, the tax is now 54% (it was 120%).
Before this help, Temu seemed to stop sending things from China. They started using items they already had in America. The shop says it has many things in "local" stores with "no extra fees" for buyers in America. Shein says that the price you see includes all fees, so you don't need to pay more when you get your order.
Stanley Black & Decker makes tools. They said prices went up in April. They plan to raise prices again in the summer because of new taxes.
Donald Allan, Jr. said last month that they are changing their supply plans to lower the effect of taxes on customers and protect their company.
Procter & Gamble makes things like Crest and Tide. They said prices may go up for shoppers soon.
