A U.S. official said Tuesday that Chevron is expected to announce soon that it will expand its operations in Venezuela.
The official told reporters about the expected announcement.
They said Chevron officials and Energy Secretary Chris Wright are expected to visit Venezuela on Wednesday.
The new investment will be formally announced during the visit.
The official spoke without giving their name, as required by White House rules.
Chevron is the second-largest U.S. oil company.
It is the only one with a major presence in Venezuela.
The announcement follows the White House's confirmation on Monday that it is working with North American Blue Energy Partners.
This is part of President Donald Trump's effort to use Venezuela's oil industry.
