Following Iran's missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, which was in retaliation for America bombing its nuclear sites, President Trump declared that Israel and Iran had reached an agreement for a "complete and total ceasefire." Nevertheless, the ceasefire's status remained uncertain after a subsequent Iranian missile attack targeted Israel, occurring after the initial deadline for the proposal.
As the sun came up, Iranian attacks made Israelis go into bomb shelters, leading to at least four deaths and eight injuries, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services. Israel has not yet replied to Trump's suggestion, which seems to give them more time to possibly strike back, even though Iran's state television said a complete ceasefire had started at 7:30 a.m. local time.
In Beersheba, emergency services reported finding four bodies in one building and continued searching for more. The streets around the explosion site were covered with broken glass and debris, and windows were blown out of nearby buildings. Anxious residents stood outside their damaged homes, and three people were rescued from neighboring properties.
The main city in southern Israel was directly hit only a few days after its largest hospital was significantly damaged by a missile strike.
After Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in retaliation for American airstrikes on its nuclear sites, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had seemingly agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel ceased theirs by 4 a.m. Tehran time on Tuesday. However, the Israeli military later informed its public on Tuesday that Iran had launched missiles towards Israel almost an hour after that time.
After Iran launched a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in response to American airstrikes on its nuclear sites, President Trump announced a "complete and total ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. However, the possibility of a ceasefire was still uncertain after more Iranian missiles hit Israel. Firefighters in Beersheba then found four bodies in a building that had been struck by one of these missiles.
Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." This announcement followed a limited missile attack by Iran on a U.S. military base in Qatar, which was in retaliation for America bombing its nuclear sites. However, Israel has not confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that the ceasefire, which was scheduled to start around midnight Washington time, would bring an "Official END" to the conflict.
More than an hour after the first part of the suggested ceasefire, which required Iran to stop its attacks, Trump announced: "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!"
Although Israel did not immediately confirm a ceasefire, there were no reports of Israeli attacks in Iran after 4 a.m. Tehran time. Before that, Israel had carried out heavy strikes in Iranian cities. In past conflicts, Israel has often increased its attacks just before a ceasefire began.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on X that there is still no agreement on a ceasefire or stopping military actions. He added that if the Israeli government stops its illegal attacks against Iranian people by 4 AM Tehran time, Iran will not continue its response after that.
His message was published at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time, and Araghchi added: "The final decision about stopping our military actions will be made later."
The Israeli military chose not to comment on Trump's ceasefire announcement, and Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
The conflict has caused many casualties, with at least 24 people killed and over 1,000 injured in Israel. In Iran, Israeli attacks have reportedly led to the deaths of at least 974 people and injuries to 3,458 others, according to Human Rights Activists, a group based in Washington.
The group, which has provided precise figures for casualties during Iranian unrest, including the protests following Mahsa Amini's death in 2022, stated that among those killed, 387 were identified as civilians and 268 as security force personnel.
The State Department announced that around 250 American citizens and their close relatives have been evacuated from Israel since the weekend, using government, military, and chartered planes. It is estimated that about 700,000 American citizens, many of whom are also Israeli citizens, are currently in Israel.
