South Koreans are voting for a new president in an early election after the previous president, Yoon Suk Yeol, was removed from office. He had controversially declared martial law for a short period, which led to his trial. The liberal candidate, Lee Jae-myung, is expected to win, as he is gaining support from the public's frustration with the conservative party. This election happens during a time of strong disagreement within the country, which could make the new president's job difficult. The new leader will immediately start a five-year term and will face challenges like a slowing economy, Trump's 'America First' policies, and North Korea's nuclear threats. Before the election, surveys suggest Lee will win. He is known for criticizing the conservative government and wanting a more confident foreign policy. However, his critics see him as a dangerous populist who does not keep his promises.
