South Koreans are choosing a new president in a special election. This election is happening because the last president, Yoon Suk Yeol, was removed from office after he declared martial law for a short time, which led to a court case. The liberal candidate, Lee Jae-myung, is expected to win because many people are unhappy with the conservative party. This election is happening at a time when the country is very divided, which could make the new president's job hard. The new leader will start their five-year term right away. They will have to deal with problems like a slower economy, the US's "America First" policies, and North Korea's nuclear threats. Before the election, surveys showed that Lee, who often criticizes the conservative government and wants a stronger foreign policy, will probably win. However, people who don't support him think he is a dangerous populist who doesn't keep his promises.
