The main conservative party in South Korea had problems. They first stopped, then started again, the plan for Kim Moon Soo to be their candidate for president.

On Saturday, the party quickly changed its plan. They had tried to replace Kim with Han Duck-soo but failed. This sudden change shows the party has problems with its leaders. This happened after the former leader, Yoon Suk Yeol, was removed in December. He had put the country under military rule. This might mean the party will not win the next election.

Kim was chosen as the candidate for the PPP party on May 3. He won more than half of the votes. Some leaders in the party wanted him to stop and let someone else be the candidate. They thought this other person would have a better chance to win.

Han and Kim could not agree on who should be the candidate. So, the party committee did something new. On Saturday, they stopped their first plan, removed Kim, and chose Han. Han became a member of the party and their new candidate for president. But all party members had to agree by voting on the phone. On Saturday night, the members voted no to the change.

The party spokesman said they could not tell the exact numbers. But the party voted against changing the candidate by only a few votes. The candidate, Kim, was angry because he said the party tried to quickly remove him. Now, he is the candidate again. He plans to officially sign up for the election on Sunday.

"Now everything will go back to where it should be," Kim said.

Kim is 73 years old. In the 1970s and 80s, he was a strong supporter of workers. In the 1990s, he joined a conservative party. He said he changed his mind about being a 'revolutionist' after seeing communist countries fail. Later, he was the leader of Gyeonggi province in South Korea for eight years. He was also a member of the National Assembly three times.

Han was president for a short time after Yoon lost his job in December and April. Han left his job in May to try to become president. He said he could lead the country because he worked for the public for a long time. He said the country had problems with other countries and trade, partly because of things U.S. President Donald Trump did.

Han, who wanted everyone to work together after he became the candidate, said he listened to the party members.

In recent polls, Han and Kim were much less popular than Lee. Lee was the main person in the Democrats' plan to remove Yoon. He made fun of the PPP's idea to change their candidate. He told reporters, "I know about forced marriages, but I have never heard of forced unity."
