In South Korea, a political party had problems and first stopped, then started again, a candidate for president named Kim Moon Soo on the same day. This happened because of disagreements inside the party, before an election in June.

On Saturday, the People Power Party quickly changed their mind after trying to replace their leader, Kim, with Han Duck-soo. This failed attempt showed that the party had problems with its leaders. This happened after former President Yoon Suk Yeol was removed because he ordered martial law in December. This might mean the party will not win the next election.

Kim, who is a strong conservative and used to work for Yoon, became the party's candidate on May 3 after winning the vote. But the party leaders wanted Kim to step aside and support Han, because they thought Han had a better chance to win against Lee Jae-myung.

Han and Kim could not agree on who should be the candidate. So, the party committee made a very unusual choice on Saturday morning. They cancelled their first choice, removed Kim, and made Han a party member and their new candidate. But this change needed a vote from everyone in the party by phone. The vote on Saturday night did not agree with the change.

The party spokesman, Shin Dong-wook, said they couldn't share the exact numbers. But the vote to change the candidate did not pass. Kim said the party tried to replace him quickly, calling it a 'sudden political move'. He became the candidate again right away. The party said he will officially sign up for the election on Sunday.

"Now everything will go back to its right place," Kim said.

Kim is 73 years old. He was important in fighting for workers' rights in the 1970s and 80s. Later, he joined a different political party. He said he stopped wanting to change society completely because he saw problems in countries with communist governments. After that, he was the leader of a part of South Korea called Gyeonggi province for eight years. He was also a member of the National Assembly three times.

Han was president for a short time after Yoon was removed by the government in December and the court in April. He left his job on May 2 because he wanted to try to become the main president. He said he had worked for the country for many years, and this means he is a good leader. He believes he can lead the country well because there are problems with other countries and trade. These problems are made worse by the ideas of the American President Donald Trump.

Han said he accepts what the party members want.

In recent polls, Han and Kim were not as popular as Lee. Lee was the main person who led the Democrats' plan to remove Yoon. He made fun of the PPP's tries to change their candidate. He told reporters on Thursday, "I have heard of forced marriages but never heard of forced unity."
