Officials said on Wednesday that Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 92 people, including women, children, and two journalists. Israel is getting ready to increase its military actions in the area. The war, which has caused a lot of damage, is now in its 20th month.
Health officials say that two Israeli airstrikes in central Gaza on Wednesday killed at least 33 people and injured 86, including some children. However, they think the actual number of deaths might be more.
The Israeli army did not immediately say anything about the attacks.
This happened after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he was not sure if three hostages, who were thought to be alive in Gaza, were still alive. He said this a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said that only 21 out of 24 hostages believed to be alive had survived.
The news caused panic among families of people still held captive in Gaza.
More fighting happened on Wednesday, just days after Israel decided to increase its actions in the Palestinian area. This might involve taking control of Gaza, keeping land they have captured, making Palestinians move to southern Gaza, and managing how help is given out, possibly with private security companies.
Health officials reported that Wednesday's attacks included two strikes on a busy market area in Gaza City.
Videos shared online showed what happened after, with dead men, including one still sitting in a chair in a Thai restaurant where local people met. Several children were also lying still on the ground, covered in blood.
According to the Gaza media office, Yahya Sobeih, a journalist who worked for local newspapers, was one of the people who died. He had recently shared a photo of his new baby girl on Instagram.
People injured in the explosions, some very badly hurt, were taken to a hospital near there, a health official said.
According to the media office, another local journalist, Nour Abdu, was killed while reporting on an attack on Wednesday morning. The attack happened at a school in Gaza City that was being used as a shelter. Officials at Al-Ahli Hospital said that 16 people died in this attack. Attacks in other areas killed at least 16 more people.
Hospital officials said that 27 people died in an attack on a school on Tuesday night. Hundreds of Palestinians were staying there. The people who died included nine women and three children. This school has been hit several times since the war began.
Israel says Hamas is responsible for the deaths because it uses places like schools where ordinary people are.
The war started when militants from Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 people as hostages.
Israel is also preparing to use many reserve soldiers to put the plan into action. Israel says the plan will happen slowly and only after Trump finishes his trip to the area later this month.
More fighting would probably mean more people die. Also, since Israel already controls half of Gaza, if it keeps control for a long time, it could become a military occupation. This would create problems about how Gaza will be ruled, especially as Israel is thinking about Trump's plan to take over Gaza.
Health officials in Palestine say that Israel's attacks have killed over 52,000 people in Gaza, and many of them are women and children.
