An explosion at a chemical factory in Weifang, a city in eastern China, has killed at least five people and injured 19. Six people are still missing. The explosion happened at a factory owned by Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co., which produces pesticides and medical chemicals. The blast broke windows in nearby buildings and sent a lot of smoke into the air. Students at a nearby school said they smelled something strange after the explosion. More than 230 workers went to the area, and a team was sent to check for possible pollution. This event happened after a national meeting that aimed to make the chemical industry safer. This shows that there are still safety problems in workplaces in China. Last year, the Gaomi Youdao factory was praised for managing risks well, as they had found and fixed over 800 safety dangers.
