Officials reported on Wednesday that Israeli attacks in Gaza caused the deaths of at least 92 people. Among the dead were women, children, and two journalists. Israel is getting ready to increase its military action in the area as the severe war enters its twentieth month.
On Wednesday, two Israeli air attacks hit an area in the middle of Gaza. At least 33 people were killed and 86 were hurt, including some children. Health officials believe the real number of deaths is probably higher.
The Israeli military did not say anything right away about the strikes.
This happened after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he is not sure if three hostages, who were thought to be alive in Gaza, are still alive. He said this one day after U.S. President Donald Trump said that only 21 out of the 24 hostages believed to be alive had survived.
The news caused the families of the people still held in Gaza to feel very worried and scared.
More violence happened on Wednesday, only a few days after Israel agreed to increase its actions in the Palestinian area. Their plan included taking control of Gaza, keeping the land they had taken, making Palestinians move to southern Gaza, and managing aid distribution with private security companies.
Health officials stated that Wednesday's attacks included two strikes on a busy market in Gaza City.
Videos shared online reportedly showed what happened after the attack. Dead men were found, including one still in a chair inside a Thai restaurant where local people met. Several children were also lying still on the ground, covered in blood.
According to the media office in Gaza, Yahya Sobeih, a journalist who worked for different local news companies, died. He had recently posted a photo of his new baby daughter on Instagram.
People who were hurt in the explosions, some with serious injuries, were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital, which is nearby. Zaher al-Wahidi, who speaks for the Gaza health ministry, told The Associated Press this.
The media office reported that another local journalist, Nour Abdu, was killed while covering an attack early on Wednesday morning. This happened at a school in Gaza City that was being used as a shelter. According to officials at Al-Ahli Hospital, that attack killed 16 people. Attacks in other parts of the area killed at least 16 more people.
Hospital officials said 27 people died in an attack on a school where hundreds of Palestinians were staying on Tuesday night. Among those killed were nine women and three children. The school has been hit many times since the war began.
Israel blames Hamas for the deaths, saying they use buildings like schools, which are for civilians, for their military actions.
The war began when fighters from Hamas attacked southern Israel. They killed 1,200 people and took about 250 people as hostages.
Israel is also preparing many reserve soldiers to help with the plan.
More fighting would probably cause more deaths. Also, Israel already controls about half of Gaza. If they control the area for a long time, it could become a military occupation. This would create problems about how Israel wants to rule the area, especially as they are thinking about taking over Gaza as planned by Trump.
According to health officials in Palestine, the Israeli attack in Gaza has killed over 52,000 people. Many of the people who died were women and children.
