A psychologist spoke in court on Wednesday.
He said Lindsay Clancy did not know that killing her three children was wrong.
His name is Paul Zeizel.
He spoke for the defense.
He said Clancy had a mental disease or defect.
He said she could not follow the law.
He said she had bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis.
Clancy is 36 years old.
She says she is not guilty of murder.
The children were 8 months, 3 years, and 5 years old.
Prosecutors say she planned the killings in January 2023.
They say she sent her husband out to get medicine and dinner.
Zeizel spent over 35 hours with Clancy.
He also read her records.
He said she feared losing her children.
He said she felt her brain was damaged.
Zeizel said a psychotic state does not stop everyday tasks.
She could drive or search online.
He said Clancy took her daughter to the doctor that day.
She also played in the snow.
Prosecutors questioned his fairness.
They said his report had errors.
They also said her medical records do not show that she heard voices telling her to kill herself.
Zeizel said Clancy often talks about her children.
She misses them daily.
He said she has bad days and worse days.
If she is guilty, she will go to prison for life.
She will not get out.
If she is not guilty by reason of mental illness, she will go to a state mental health facility.
