A person was missing after a boat broke on a lake in California. It happened in a storm. They found the person on Monday. Now, eight people are dead.
On Saturday, a boat with ten people turned over in the water. It was near a park. The water had big waves. The Coast Guard said this.
Two people were saved fast and went to the hospital. We do not know if they are okay. Six dead people were found on Saturday. One more dead person was found on Sunday night. The police told us this. Divers looked in the lake and found the last dead person on Monday.
Kyle Parker said we cannot tell the names of the dead people now. We must tell their families first.
Some people have died in the lake by accident. This happened in the last few years. Big boat crashes that kill many people do not happen often. Police said in 2022 that about six people die in the lake every summer. In 2021, 15 people died. This was a lot. The police do not have new numbers now.
The storm was very strong. It surprised everyone, even the weather people. They thought it would rain a little, but it rained a lot near the lake at 3 p.m. The wind was strong, and the waves were big.
Chyba said, "It was very strong. We did not think it would be so strong."
He said it was very cold there. This made the air not stable.
Chyba said the waves on Tahoe were very big. He said they moved the lake a lot.
Lake Tahoe is a nice lake between California and Nevada. People like to go there in the summer to have fun on boats. The water is very cold.
We don't know who was on the boat that turned over. We don't know if they rented it or if it was theirs.
The storm on Saturday stopped after two hours.
Brittany Glick was on a boat with friends. They were having a party. The wind started to blow. The waves got big. It was sunny, but then it got cold. It was hard to see.
It felt like a very big wave was coming. I have not seen anything like it, she said.
The boat came back after one hour. The sea was not calm and the people got wet. Then it started to hail.
We were scared when we saw the boats upside down, Glick said. The water was very cold. We were shaking a lot. Our feet were cold, and our toes were blue. It was a very scary time. The storm came very fast. It was very scary.
A video showed boats hitting each other at the port because of strong wind.
