On Monday, the court said the government can send some people back to other countries quickly. They cannot ask the court to stop it now.
The court did not say why. One judge, Sonia Sotomayor, did not agree. Two other judges agreed with her.
Tricia McLaughlin from Homeland Security said they might send people to other countries soon. She said, "Start the planes." She thinks this helps keep Americans safe.
But a judge said one plane to South Sudan will not go now.
Some people on the plane in May were from Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cuba. They did bad things in America. The people in charge could not send them home quickly.
If they go to South Sudan, they might go to jail, be hurt, or even die. Their lawyer, Trina Realmuto, said this.
A judge in Boston said they can still talk about their problems in court. The people are now at a navy base in Djibouti.
This case is happening. The government wants to send many people back to their countries. These people live in the U.S. without papers.
Abigail Jackson from the White House said the President can make sure people follow rules about who comes to the U.S. The President can also send bad people who are not from here away. The Supreme Court said the President can send criminals who are here illegally away from our country. This makes the U.S. safe again.
Sotomayor said the court's decision is dangerous. It could put many people in danger of pain or death. She said it helps the government, even though they did not follow the rules before.
She said the government thinks it can send people away without telling them. They cannot speak first. Two other judges said the same.
South Sudan is a new and poor country. It has had many fights since 2011. In 2011, it became free from Sudan. Now, there are big problems, and a new war might start.
The government is thinking about the paper. They will decide what to do next.
The court stopped a rule. This rule helped immigrants. It let them say they were not safe in another country. They could say this even if they had no other options.
He said sending people to South Sudan in May was wrong. He told the immigration people to let them talk to their lawyers. The people stayed in a big metal box in Djibouti. It was a hard life for them and the guards.
Some countries do not want their people back from the U.S. So, the U.S. talked to countries like Panama and Costa Rica. These countries will take the people. In May, some people went to South Sudan. They only knew a short time before.
Murphy works for President Biden. Murphy said people must not go to some countries. They must say if they are in danger.
Another time, the US sent a man from Guatemala to Mexico by mistake. He said bad things happened to him there. Later, he came back to the US. This was the first time someone came back after being sent away when Trump was president.
The judges had a similar problem. Trump wanted to send people from Venezuela to a bad prison in El Salvador. People said they were in gangs. It was hard for them to go to court.
But the judges stopped people from leaving. They said people need time to go to court before they must go.
The court said yes to Trump. Many immigrants might not be able to stay here for a short time.
