Brad Lander, the New York City Comptroller and a Democratic candidate for mayor, was arrested by federal officers at an immigration court. He was taken into custody after he linked arms with a person the authorities were trying to detain. Lander was at the federal building in Manhattan to observe immigration court hearings. When agents tried to detain a man leaving a courtroom, Lander held onto him and asked to see a judicial warrant. The agents eventually separated them and arrested Lander. After his release, Lander said he was only trying to peacefully oppose Trump's immigration policies. This arrest happened during a time when there are more large-scale arrests outside immigration courtrooms across the country. Other Democratic candidates and politicians have criticized Lander's arrest.
