Khaby Lame, a very popular TikTok personality with millions of followers, has left the U.S. He was reportedly detained by immigration agents in Las Vegas because he allegedly stayed longer than his visa allowed.
Seringe Khabane Lame, an influencer from Senegal and Italy, was held for a short time at Harry Reid International Airport on Friday. However, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that he was allowed to leave the country without being deported.
Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and stayed longer than his visa allowed, according to an ICE spokesperson. The Associated Press tried to get a comment from him by sending a message to the email on his Instagram account, but he has not yet spoken publicly about being detained.
His detention and voluntary departure from the U.S. happened while President Donald Trump was increasing his strict measures on immigration. This included raids in Los Angeles, which caused protests against ICE for several days, as the president was trying to see how far his executive power could go.
Lame was allowed to leave the U.S. voluntarily, which means people facing deportation can avoid having a deportation order on their record. This is important because a deportation order could stop them from returning to the U.S. for as long as ten years.
The 25-year-old became famous worldwide during the pandemic, even though he never spoke in his videos. These videos showed him reacting to very complicated 'life hacks.' He has more than 162 million followers on TikTok.
The influencer, who was born in Senegal, moved to Italy as a baby with his working-class parents and is now an Italian citizen. His online fame grew quickly. In 2022, he signed a multi-year deal with the designer brand Hugo Boss. More recently, in January, he was named a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Having recently arrived in the United States, he subsequently attended the Met Gala in New York City last month.
