Learning Resources Inc., an Illinois toy company, has taken President Trump's tariffs to the Supreme Court. They argue that he put these tariffs in place illegally, using an emergency law without Congress's permission. Although the company won in a lower court, the tariffs are still being collected because an appeals court is reviewing a similar decision, which has put the earlier ruling on hold. Learning Resources believes the case needs to be heard quickly because the tariffs are having a big negative effect on businesses and customers. CEO Rick Woldenberg says the tariffs are causing a lot of doubt and making prices higher. The company's lawyers have suggested that the court could decide by June if it will hear the case and then listen to arguments in the fall. The Trump administration, however, defends the tariffs, saying that the emergency powers law allows the president to control imports during national emergencies.
