While he was in this role, many people lost their jobs, government departments were reduced, and there were several legal disagreements. Musk first wanted to cut $2 trillion in spending, but this plan was later reduced to $1 trillion, and then even further to just $150 billion. This caused more and more frustration and tension with other people in Trump's administration. Musk's decision to leave happened after he criticized Trump's new laws, especially a "massive spending bill" that Musk believed would make the government's debt bigger. Even though he left, the White House still plans to make some of the cuts Musk suggested. However, Musk has said he is unhappy with the federal government's system and plans to spend less money on politics.
