Mary Lou Retton, the famous American gymnast, was arrested in her home state of West Virginia for driving under the influence. This happened on May 17th after police received reports of a Porsche being driven unsafely. When officers stopped Retton, they smelled alcohol, noticed her speech was unclear, and saw a wine bottle in the passenger seat. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and would not take a breath test or a blood test. She was later released after paying a $1,500 bond. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet spoken about the situation. This incident comes after Retton was in intensive care in 2023 for a rare type of pneumonia that caused very low oxygen levels.
