Mary Lou Retton, a well-known American gymnast, was arrested in her hometown in West Virginia. She was charged with a minor offense for driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrest happened on May 17th after police received a report about a Porsche being driven unsafely. When officers stopped Retton, they noticed she smelled of alcohol, spoke unclearly, and had a wine bottle in the passenger seat. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and refused to take a breath test or a blood test. She was later released from jail after paying a $1,500 bond. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet said anything about the situation. This event occurred after it was revealed in 2023 that Retton was getting better from a rare type of pneumonia. She had to go to intensive care because her oxygen levels were very low.
