Apple released iOS 27 last week.
The update has a better Siri assistant.
It also adds many features that people do not know about.
It works on devices from the iPhone 11 in 2019 and newer.
Apps load faster.
Some new features use Apple Intelligence.
But they only work on newer devices, like the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro.
The new Siri AI app starts in beta.
So users must join a waitlist in settings.
Its release in the European Union will be delayed.
This is because of a dispute about the bloc's digital rules.
Apple added child safety features.
It also redesigned its screen time controls.
Parents now have more detailed control over what kids can see.
A new setup process lets parents pick which apps kids can use.
They can add more later.
A feature called Ask to Browse makes children get permission first.
They must do this before opening new websites in Safari.
It is on by default for children under 13.
This is like the Ask to Buy setting.
Parents can approve requests in messages.
They can also approve on the child's device with their passcode.
This is easier than approving each website.
It is also easier than banning them all.
The new screen time controls let parents schedule app use by category.
Examples are entertainment, games or social media.
Parents can allow certain apps during a set time.
This can be before, during or after school.
They can set weekday and weekend schedules.
Before, they could only set general daily limits for downtime.
Parents can also stop all device access, such as at dinner.
Or they can temporarily lift all restrictions.
Apple also expanded its Communications Safety feature.
It blocked nudity in Messages and FaceTime.
Now it blocks gore or violence too.
All devices must be updated to iOS 27 or its equivalents.
Then these controls will work.
Safari can now watch webpages and tell users about changes.
Apple says Notify Me checks for updates.
These include price changes and item availability.
Users open the site and tap the three-line menu.
Then they choose Notify Me.
They set what to watch and how often to check.
A reporter tested it on a news site's AI section.
The reporter got alerts about new headlines.
But it did not say which post was new.
Some users may wish it could check more often than hourly.
New AI photo editing tools can change a photo's perspective.
They can remove distracting objects.
They can also extend the background.
The reporter found reframing worked well.
But extending produced odd results.
One result had a fake house number.
