President Donald Trump spoke on Sunday.
He said he does not want to slow down artificial intelligence.
He warned that the United States could lose its lead over China.
Trump said winning the AI race would help with the risks of the technology.
Trump said some rules may be needed.
But he gave no details.
He blamed warnings about fast AI growth on unnamed “negative forces.”
He said AI will be “more good than bad, but by a lot.”
He said he was not making the risks seem smaller.
Trump spoke one day after Dario Amodei called for a pause in AI.
Amodei is the CEO of Anthropic.
He wants safety measures to catch up.
Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman agreed with Amodei.
Trump said the U.S. leads China in AI.
He wants to keep it that way.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet Trump at the White House later in September.
AI may come up.
AI is now a big issue in the U.S. election year.
Barack Obama said Democrats should campaign on AI safety.
He also talked about its effects on the economy.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Congress needs “some guardrails.”
But he said Congress should not panic.
