Google has to pay a fine of 403 million euros.

The regulator said Google did not handle location data in a lawful or fair way.

This data was in users' Web & App Activity and Location History.

Regulators also found that Google was not lawful, fair, or clear.

This was about personal data in its Location Accuracy feature on Android.

Ireland is the main regulator for Google in the 27-nation EU.

This is because Google's European headquarters is in Dublin.

The investigation started six years ago.

It covered the period from 2018 to February 2020.

The EU's General Data Protection Regulation started in 2018.

Google said the case is about old policies.

Google said it has since updated them.

Google said that from 2019 onwards, it has changed its practices a lot.

It also launched tools to make managing location data simple.

Regulators said location data is personal data.

Google collects it and can use it to guess where someone is.

Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle said location data can help and harm people.

He said it can make online services better.

But it can also reveal a lot about a person, including private details.

This is the fourth biggest EU privacy fine from the Irish watchdog.

The watchdog has given bigger fines to TikTok and Meta.

The regulator said it still has three other privacy investigations involving Google.
