Huawei showed new chip technologies on Thursday.
The event was at its yearly conference in Shanghai.
This news is a challenge to big world companies like Nvidia.
It also shows the AI gap between China and the U.S. is getting smaller.
The event came days before a planned meeting.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet in Washington on Sept. 24.
China wants to depend on itself for technology.
This is because U.S.-led rules stopped China from getting advanced AI chips and chipmaking machines.
Huawei showed the Atlas 960 SuperPoD computing cluster.
It is faster than a model from only months ago.
It is better at AI training and inference.
Huawei also plans to launch the Ascend 970 and 980 chip series.
They will come in 2028 and 2029.
Huawei expects big gains in computing power.
George Chen works for The Asia Group consultancy.
He said the timing shows Beijing's confidence and ambition in technology.
Trump has said the U.S. must stay ahead of China.
He does not want to slow AI development for safety.
Chen said AI moves so fast that no one can be sure of leading forever.
Analysts say China's advanced work, like AI model training, still often uses U.S. chips.
But Huawei makes its own advanced chips.
It leads Chinese chip developers.
Chinese AI companies are using more and more chips made in China.
Chen said Huawei's upgrade in just one year will make the U.S. more worried.
The AI competition is getting faster.
