Meta is investing $14.3 billion in the artificial intelligence company Scale, and its CEO, Alexandr Wang, has joined Meta's "superintelligence" development team. This move is part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's strategy to enhance AI capabilities at Meta as it competes with rivals such as Google and OpenAI. Scale will maintain its independence, but this agreement will significantly expand the business relationship between the two companies, giving Meta a 49% stake in Scale. Wang will transition to Meta with a small team but will remain on Scale's board, with Jason Droege succeeding him as interim CEO. This investment values Scale at over $29 billion. The implications of this deal for Scale's other clients, including General Motors, Toyota, and several prominent large language model providers, are currently uncertain.
