A man who used to deliver food said he did something wrong. He worked with other people to steal money from DoorDash. They made DoorDash pay for food that was never delivered. They stole more than two million dollars, police said.
Sayee Devagiri said he was guilty in court in San Jose. He did something bad with computers, said the U.S. Attorney.
Devagiri, 30, from Newport Beach, California, said he worked with three people in 2020 and 2021 to trick a delivery company in San Francisco, police said.
The police said Devagiri used people's accounts to order things. Then, he used a worker's login to change the orders to his friends' accounts. These accounts said they delivered the orders, but they didn't. Devagiri made the company pay these accounts for things they didn't deliver.
Devagiri used the DoorDash app. He changed orders to say "not ready". Then, he gave the orders to his own drivers again, said police.
The person who did the bad thing said they were sorry in court in 2023, police said.
Devagiri is the third person found guilty in this plan. He may go to jail for 20 years and pay $250,000. He will be back in court on Sept. 16.
