Google's app for iPhones has a new tool called "Simplify". It uses AI to make hard words or ideas on websites easier to understand. You don't need to leave the website.
Simplify uses a special method from Google to make text easier to understand. It uses Gemini to make hard text simple, but it keeps the main ideas. Google tested this and found that people understood and remembered the information better with the simple text.
Google hopes people will use its Simplify tool instead of other tools like ChatGPT.
To use Simplify, choose text on a website you see in the Google app. Then, press the "Simplify" button. You will then see the text in an easier way, which helps you understand and keep reading.
For example, you might see text like this: “This problem damages the lungs in many ways.”
This is a difficult lung problem. It hurts the lungs in two ways. One way is emphysema, which harms the small air sacs. The other way is fibrosis, which makes scars in the lungs. The cells and blood vessels in the lungs also change a lot. The body makes more things that help control how the body fights illness.
Google says the feature will help people understand difficult things they find when learning online.
Google said their models need to rewrite difficult ideas correctly. The new text must help people understand hard topics without changing the real meaning.
Simplify will be available for iOS users this week.
