Non-French tennis players at the French Open have complained about the very strong atmosphere when they play against French players, saying it feels like a very intense football game. Last year, the tournament organizers banned alcohol from the stands because of the crowd's aggressive actions, like booing, whistling, and shouting insults. Some players, such as Nicolás Jarry from Chile, have called their experiences "disgusting" and the worst they have ever had. Because of this negative crowd behavior, the tournament director, Amélie Mauresmo, said that security has been increased and chair umpires can now do more to stop and report bad behavior. However, not all players are bothered by this strong atmosphere; for example, Belgian player Elise Mertens said it is a normal part of tennis. French player Corentin Moutet understood the pressure of playing at home and told other players to try and ignore it.
