Formula 1 team Alpine has made alterations to its driver roster, elevating Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the next five Grand Prix events, displacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine announced the change on Wednesday, a day after Oliver Oakes resigned as team principal, stating that Flavio Briatore would continue as executive advisor and assume Oakes' responsibilities.
According to a statement from Alpine, Colapinto is scheduled to partner with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a further assessment planned prior to the British Grand Prix in July.
Alpine currently holds the ninth position in the Formula 1 constructors' standings following the initial six rounds of the season. The forthcoming race weekend is scheduled to take place from May 16th to 18th at Imola.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another vehicle on the initial lap and subsequently crashed on the following lap.
Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes refuted media speculation regarding a driver change, having previously stated that the novice Australian driver would retain his position.
Doohan, having failed to score any points in his seven Grand Prix appearances with a highest placement of 13th, will resume his role as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, son of the five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, commenced his Formula 1 career during the final race of 2024 and began this season representing Alpine at the inaugural Australian Grand Prix, stepping in for Esteban Ocon, who departed Alpine following a challenging 2024 season.
Colapinto was appointed as a reserve driver for Alpine in January, following his participation in the 2024 season with Williams, where he accumulated five points after taking over from Logan Sargeant in August.
