Freddie Freeman achieved two singles and a triple with the bases loaded, contributing to the Los Angeles Dodgers' resounding 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman proved instrumental in the Dodgers' series triumph, driving in four runs and extending his impressive hitting streak to twelve games. His pivotal role in securing their fourth consecutive series win was underscored by his dominant performance, achieving eight hits in thirteen at-bats, including six RBIs and two home runs.
Shohei Ohtani hit a triple and was walked three times on Wednesday, including an intentional walk during a seven-run inning against pitcher Lake Bachar.
Reserve player James Outman extended the Dodgers' advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) yielded four hits and no runs, striking out five, following his earlier recall from Triple-A Oklahoma City; Matt Sauer, also recalled, entered in relief and secured his first career save by pitching the final four innings.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, yielded a mere single hit and achieved seven strikeouts through five and a third innings without surrendering any runs. He was subsequently replaced by Cade Gibson after facing the first batter in the sixth inning, thus avoiding a third encounter with Ohtani. In the subsequent at-bat, Ohtani successfully hit a triple off Gibson (0-1).
Newcomer catcher Augustin Ramirez achieved a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), whose record declined to 2-9 across their previous eleven games.
Jesús Sánchez recorded a single in the sixth inning and propelled Miami's sole run across the plate with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers decisively took control of the game against Bachar, who entered the game and promptly issued a walk, a single, and a run-scoring single. With first base unoccupied, Bachar intentionally walked Ohtani before walking Mookie Betts, thereby loading the bases. Freeman's subsequent triple cleared the bases, which was then followed by another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers managed only a solitary hit through the initial five innings against Bellozo, but subsequently accumulated eleven hits off four Miami relief pitchers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, with RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) scheduled to pitch. The Marlins have a day off on Thursday before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) initiates a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
