Japan has a new sumo champion called Onosato. He is the first Japanese person to become a grand champion since 2017. Most sumo champions recently have been from Mongolia. Onosato is 24 years old and weighs 191 kilograms. He became a grand champion after winning a big sumo tournament. Onosato is from Ishikawa, an area that had a very bad earthquake and tsunami in 2024. He said he wants to use his new position to help the people in his home area feel better. He will now compete against Hoshoryu, another top sumo wrestler from Mongolia. They will have a competition in July in Nagoya.
