The Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers. Franco Colapinto will race instead of Jack Doohan for at least the next five races.
Alpine said on Wednesday that Flavio Briatore will be the new team boss. This happened after Oliver Oakes left the day before.
Alpine said that Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna race. They will check again how he is doing before the British Grand Prix in July.
After six races, the Alpine team is ninth in the Formula 1 competition. The next race is in Imola from May 16th to 18th.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another car on the first lap and subsequently crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami race, Oakes said the news about changing drivers was not true. He said the new driver from Australia would still race.
Doohan did not get any points in his seven races. His best finish was 13th place. Now, he will be the team's extra driver again.
Jack Doohan's father, Mick Doohan, was a famous motorcycle champion. Jack started racing in Formula 1 at the end of 2024. This year, he began driving for the Alpine team in the first race in Australia. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult year in 2024.
Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. He drove for Williams in 2024 and got five points. He took the place of Logan Sargeant in August.
