Non-French tennis players at the French Open have complained about the very unfriendly atmosphere when they play against French opponents, saying it feels like a very intense football game. The crowd's aggressive actions, like booing, whistling, and shouting insults, caused the tournament organizers to stop selling alcohol in the stands last year. Some players, such as Nicolás Jarry from Chile, have called their experiences "disgusting" and the worst they have ever had. Because of this bad crowd behavior, tournament director Amélie Mauresmo said that security has been increased, and chair umpires can now do more to stop and report bad behavior. However, not all players are bothered by the unfriendly atmosphere; for example, Belgian player Elise Mertens said it is a normal part of tennis. French player Corentin Moutet understood the pressure of playing at home and told players to just ignore it.
