Freddie Freeman contributed two singles and a bases-loaded triple, playing a key role in the Los Angeles Dodgers' decisive 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman's exceptional performance, including driving in four runs and prolonging his hitting streak to twelve consecutive games, significantly contributed to the MLB-leading Dodgers (25-12) securing a series win in Miami, marking their fourth consecutive series victory. His remarkable statistics for the series included going 8 for 13 at the plate, driving in six runs batted in, and hitting two home runs.
Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and secured three walks on Wednesday, including an intentional one issued during a decisive six-run seventh inning against relief pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman extended the Dodgers' advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) yielded four hits and no runs while striking out five after being summoned earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City; Matt Sauer, also recalled, then relieved Knack, pitching the final four innings for his inaugural career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, delivered an impressive performance, surrendering only one hit and fanning seven batters across five and one-third scoreless innings. He was succeeded on the mound by Cade Gibson one batter into the sixth inning, thus preventing Bellozo from confronting Ohtani for a third occasion. Ohtani then registered a triple against Gibson (0-1) during the subsequent plate appearance.
First-year catcher Augustin Ramirez achieved a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), who have now lost nine of their last eleven games, bringing their record in that span to 2-9.
Jesús Sánchez recorded a single in the sixth inning and subsequently produced Miami's solitary run by executing a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
The Dodgers significantly expanded their lead in the seventh inning against Bachar, who, after entering the game, surrendered a walk, a single, and a run-scoring single. With first base unoccupied, Bachar deliberately walked Ohtani before walking Mookie Betts with the bases loaded. Freeman then hit a triple, clearing the bases, which was followed by another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers managed only a single hit in the initial five innings against Bellozo, yet subsequently amassed eleven hits off four different Miami relief pitchers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game set in Arizona on Thursday, featuring right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as the starting hurler. The Marlins have a rest day on Thursday preceding right-handed pitcher Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) taking the mound for the initial contest of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
