Formula 1 team Alpine has altered its driver lineup, opting to elevate Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the subsequent five Grand Prix events, thereby displacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine substantiated the leadership transition on Wednesday, a day following Oliver Oakes' resignation as team principal. The team announced that Flavio Briatore will maintain his role as executive advisor and assume Oakes' responsibilities.
Alpine stated that Colapinto is scheduled to partner with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a subsequent assessment planned before the British Grand Prix in July.
Following six rounds of the Formula 1 season, Alpine currently occupies the ninth position in the constructors' championship standings. The subsequent race weekend is scheduled to take place from May 16th to 18th at the Imola circuit.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another vehicle on the initial lap and subsequently crashed on the following lap.
Ahead of the Miami GP weekend, Oakes refuted media speculation about a driver rotation, affirming that the rookie Australian driver would keep his position.
Doohan, having not accumulated any points in his seven Grand Prix races and achieving a top placement of thirteenth, will assume the role of the team's reserve driver once more.
Jack Doohan, whose father is five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, started his Formula 1 career in the last race of 2024. He began this year racing for Alpine at the first Australian Grand Prix of the season. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult 2024.
Colapinto took up the position of reserve driver for Alpine in January, having previously competed for Williams in 2024, where he accumulated five points after stepping in for Logan Sargeant in August.
