The Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers. Franco Colapinto will drive in the next five races instead of Jack Doohan.
Alpine said on Wednesday that Flavio Briatore will do the job that Oliver Oakes did before he left.
Alpine said Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna race. They will decide about his future before the British race in July.
Alpine is in ninth place in the F1 teams competition after six races. The next race is from May 16 to 18 in Imola.
At the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, Doohan hit another car at the start of the race and then crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami race, Oakes said that the news about changing the driver was not true. He said the new driver from Australia would stay in the car.
Doohan did not get any points in his seven races. His best place was 13th. Now, he will be the team's reserve driver again.
Jack Doohan's father, Mick Doohan, was a famous motorcycle champion. Jack started racing in Formula 1 at the end of 2024. This year, he drove for the Alpine team in the first race in Australia. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine because he was not happy in 2024.
Colapinto started working as a reserve driver for Alpine in January. Before that, he drove for Williams in 2024 and got five points. He took the place of Logan Sargeant in August.
