Freddie Freeman demonstrated strong offensive performance with two singles and a triple with the bases loaded, contributing significantly to the Los Angeles Dodgers' commanding 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman's pivotal performance, driving in four runs and extending his hitting streak to a formidable 12 games, propelled the MLB-leading Dodgers (25-12) to secure two victories in their three-game series at Miami, marking their fourth consecutive series win. Throughout the series, Freeman showcased exceptional form, going 8 for 13 with six RBIs and two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and was walked three times, notably receiving an intentional pass during the Angels' six-run seventh inning against the reliever Lake Bachar.
Reserve player James Outman increased the Dodgers' advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) yielded four hits and no runs, while striking out five, after being promoted earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City; Matt Sauer, who was also brought up, replaced Knack and threw the final four innings to secure his first career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, delivered a dominant performance, surrendering only a single hit and striking out seven opponents over five and a third scoreless innings. He was subsequently replaced by Cade Gibson at the outset of the sixth inning, prior to encountering Ohtani for a third confrontation. In the subsequent plate appearance, Ohtani connected for a triple off Gibson, who was credited with the loss (0-1).
Novice catcher Augustin Ramirez achieved a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), a team which has now lost nine of its last eleven fixtures.
Jesús Sánchez's sixth-inning single and ninth-inning sacrifice fly accounted for Miami's sole run.
In the seventh inning, against pitcher Bachar, who had just entered the game, the Dodgers significantly widened their lead. Bachar's performance began poorly, issuing a walk, a single, and a subsequent single that brought in a run. With first base unoccupied, Bachar deliberately walked Ohtani, and then walked Mookie Betts, thus loading the bases. This sequence set the stage for Freeman's triple, which cleared the bases, and another run-scoring single soon followed.
The Dodgers managed only a single hit in the initial five innings against Bellozo before accumulating eleven hits off four Miami relievers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, featuring RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as the starting pitcher. The Marlins have a day off on Thursday before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) takes the mound for the opening game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
