Formula 1 team Alpine has altered its driver roster, promoting Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the next five Grand Prix events at the expense of Jack Doohan.
Alpine confirmed the alteration on Wednesday, a day after Oliver Oakes resigned as team principal, with the team announcing that Flavio Briatore would maintain his role as executive advisor and assume Oakes' former responsibilities.
Alpine stated that Colapinto would join Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix onwards, with a further assessment scheduled before the British Grand Prix in July.
Following six rounds of the Formula 1 season, Alpine currently occupies ninth position in the constructors' championship standings. The upcoming race weekend, scheduled for May 16th to 18th, will be held at the Imola circuit.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the initial lap, followed by a crash on the subsequent lap.
Prior to the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes refuted media claims of a potential driver change, confirming the rookie Australian would keep his position.
Doohan, having failed to register a single point in his seven GP outings with a peak performance of 13th, will resume his role as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan was a five-time motorcycle world champion, started his Formula 1 career in the last race of 2024. He then raced for Alpine in the first Australian Grand Prix this year. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult year in 2024.
Colapinto became an Alpine reserve driver in January, having previously raced for Williams in 2024, where he scored five points after substituting for Logan Sargeant in August.
