Jon Stewart says he never planned to help first responders.

He helps them and their families.

It happened by itself.

He is the host of “The Daily Show.”

He said he wanted to feel useful.

He wanted to help people who help others.

He said these people are not superheroes.

They are just men and women.

They chose to be there for others in bad times.

Stewart supported 9/11 first responders.

This led to angry lobbying in 2019.

He also spoke to Congress in 2019.

He pushed to keep the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

He did not want it to run out of money.

He also worked to close a loophole in the PACT Act.

That loophole left U.S. troops exposed to radiation.

This happened during the Afghanistan War.

They had no medical coverage.

On Friday, Stewart announced some news.

He will host the Roll Call of Heroes ceremony again.

The First Responders Children’s Foundation runs the event.

The event will be in New York’s Times Square.

It is on Oct. 28.

It marks National First Responders Day.

Stewart said it is nice to meet the people being honored.

He also likes to meet young people.

These young people are active in their communities.

Jillian Crane is the Foundation President and CEO.

She said the nonprofit is very happy.

Stewart will host again.

She said he speaks up for first responders.

She said he especially helps those with 9/11-related illnesses.

She said this makes him the perfect host.

She said the group is the only national nonprofit.

It helps the children of first responders.
