The 78th Emmy Awards take place Monday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
“The Pitt” hopes to secure its place in television history.
Meanwhile, “Widow’s Bay” arrives with a surge of buzz.
Mariska Hargitay will host on NBC.
She is a three-time Emmy winner from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
The network has laid out a peacock blue carpet to mark its 100th anniversary.
The ceremony will also honor the 30th anniversary of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
It will mark the 50th anniversary of “Charlie’s Angels,” with cast members among the presenters.
The show airs live on NBC and streams on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.
“Live from E!: Countdown to the Emmys” begins at 5 p.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. Pacific on YouTube and Peacock.
HBO Max’s “The Pitt” won best drama last year.
It also won best actor for Noah Wyle and best supporting actress for Katherine LaNasa.
It is expected to repeat in all three categories.
It could win three more, with Wyle up for three trophies.
“Hacks” earned the most comedy nominations for its fifth and final season.
Jean Smart is a virtual lock for best actress in a comedy.
But Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” could spoil that send-off.
It already has eight wins from earlier ceremonies and can add up to six more Monday.
That would break the record of 13 Emmys for a comedy in a season, set last year by “The Studio.”
“Widow’s Bay” star Matthew Rhys is a favorite for best actor in a comedy.
Kate O’Flynn is a strong candidate for best supporting actress.
Rhea Seehorn could win her first Emmy for best actress in a drama for “Pluribus.”
She faces Zendaya of “Euphoria.”
Harrison Ford, 84, is among the favorites for best supporting actor in a comedy for “Shrinking.”
