Wall Street ended Thursday about the same as it started.
The day had many sudden changes.
The S&P 500 finished almost flat.
It fell less than 0.1%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 161 points, or 0.3%.
The Nasdaq composite gained less than 0.1%.
Stocks have slowed their rise.
The S&P 500 came close to its highest level ever earlier this week.
Now the bond market is pushing harder.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury jumped to 5.20%.
It was 5.11% late Wednesday.
This is the highest level since 2007.
High yields slow the economy because borrowing costs more.
They also push stock prices down.
Yields followed oil prices.
Oil prices have been up and down.
People are not sure when the war with Iran will let oil flow freely from the Middle East.
The price of a barrel of Brent crude fell from $102 to about $99 in minutes at midday.
Then it ended at $100.22, up 2.1%.
Rising yields are not only about oil and inflation.
The U.S. economy keeps growing.
This also supports yields.
A report on Thursday showed fewer Americans asked for unemployment benefits last week.
Traders now think the Federal Reserve will raise rates two more times by the end of the year.
This is more likely than not, according to CME Group data.
