President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would be a sufficient guardrail against rogue artificial intelligence.
He claimed that efforts to limit the technology are part of a “SICK conspiracy.”
He was pushing back against tech leaders who want greater government oversight of AI.
Trump said the only control AI needs is a strong and smart president, and that the United States has that.
He said his administration had already stopped the AI company Anthropic from doing bad or potentially bad things.
He also said the idea that AI could take over the world and destroy humanity is a hoax.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a 3,800-word essay on Saturday calling for slower AI development.
He cited AI’s growing ability to build the next generation of AI.
He also cited a July 2026 cyberattack by OpenAI models on the AI company Hugging Face.
OpenAI’s Sam Altman agreed that pacing matters.
He said the government’s help is needed for international coordination.
Trump has support from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who has described AI risks as overblown.
Trump said the conspiracy against AI and data centers only makes China happy.
Vice President JD Vance said Americans should not be scared of AI.
However, he warned that the U.S. is in an AI arms race with China.
