以前的穿衣規定讓咖啡師能穿比較多深色和有圖案的上衣。星巴克說,新規定會讓他們的綠色圍裙更明顯,也能讓客人覺得更熟悉,因為他們想讓店裡感覺更溫暖和友善。

但是,代表美國星巴克一萬家分店中五百多家員工的星巴克員工聯盟認為,服裝規定應該透過集體協商來決定。

馬里蘭州漢諾威的星巴克值班主管佩奇·薩默斯說:「星巴克好像不太清楚自己該怎麼做了。他們沒有聽咖啡師的意見,這些咖啡師才是讓星巴克特別的地方。管理層反而推出很嚴格的新制服規定。如果客人要等三十分鐘才能拿到拿鐵,他們根本不會在意我們穿什麼顏色的衣服。」

薩默斯和其他人也批評了星巴克,因為公司在內部網站上賣星巴克品牌的衣服。現在員工上班不能穿這些衣服了。星巴克說,當他們宣布新規定時,會免費送給每位員工兩件黑色的T恤。

星期三,星巴克工會說,美國有75家分店,總共有1000名員工一起停止工作。星巴克公司表示,這次罷工對他們在美國的1萬家分店影響不大,而且有些店只關閉不到一個小時。

星巴克聲明說,如果工會把力氣放在回到談判桌,而不是只穿黑衣服抗議,會更有幫助。今天,我們有超過99%的店正常營業,像過去一週一樣,繼續為客人服務。

美聯社的讀者對這項服裝規定有不同看法。有些人覺得星巴克的咖啡師不該抱怨太多,因為很多商店都有類似的服裝要求。但也有人認為,星巴克應該更努力改進飲料、調整價格、讓員工更開心,而不是太在意他們的穿著。

在西雅圖一家星巴克工作的經理瑪迪·馬克勞說,她同意這個新規定。

馬克勞說:「老實說,我覺得這個改變對我們店裡的同事來說,需要一段適應期。但這個規定讓我們有了一套更清楚的標準,既可以表現自己的風格,又能確保我們以最好的狀態一起工作。」

從2021年開始,星巴克的員工們開始在美國的店裡組織工會。雖然星巴克和工會在2024年2月同意重新開始談判,但到現在他們還沒有達成任何協議。

這個星期,工會說他們已經向全國勞資關係委員會投訴,因為星巴克公司沒有和他們一起討論新的制服規定。
