Sotheby's stopped selling jewels about Buddha. India said no to the sale.
The old stones for sale were found with old things from Buddha in India. They are very old, from a long time ago.
India's culture group said on Facebook that Sotheby's Hong Kong must stop selling the things. They said the sale is not allowed by India's rules and world rules.
In a letter, it said the sale has important religious things from India. It asked Sotheby's to give them back and say sorry.
Peppé is the grandson of William Peppé. William was from Britain and found old things.
India said: If you don't do what we say, we will go to court. We will also tell people that you help with old unfair things and sell holy items in a bad way.
Sotheby's said on Wednesday that the sale will be later. They said they heard the Indian government. The owners said yes.

Some pages about the sale on the Sotheby's website were gone on Wednesday.
India's culture ministry said on Facebook that the auction was stopped. They helped to stop it.
