Starbucks workers did not like the new rules for clothes. They stopped working on Thursday.

Many Starbucks workers have stopped working. They don't like the new rules for clothes at work. This has happened in many shops since Sunday. A group that helps the workers said this.

From Monday, Starbucks has new rules for what workers can wear under their green aprons. In the U.S. and Canada, workers must wear a black shirt and pants or jeans in brown, black, or blue.

Before, baristas could wear more dark colors and shirts with designs. Now, Starbucks says the new rules will help the green aprons look better and make customers feel welcome.

Starbucks workers have a group that speaks for them. This group says the rules about what workers wear should be talked about together.

Paige Summers works at Starbucks. She thinks Starbucks is doing things wrong. She says Starbucks should listen to its workers. She thinks customers don't care about the clothes workers wear. They care about getting their coffee fast.

Some people said the company was wrong to sell Starbucks clothes online. These were clothes that workers could not wear at work anymore. Starbucks said they would give two free black shirts to each worker when they told them about the new rules for clothes.

On Wednesday, the Starbucks workers' group said 1,000 workers did not work at 75 shops in the U.S. Starbucks said the strike did not change much at its 10,000 U.S. shops. Some shops closed for a short time, the company said.

Starbucks said it is better to talk than to protest. Most of their stores are open for customers.

People who read the news had different ideas about the rules for clothes at Starbucks. Some people said the workers should not complain, because other shops also have rules for clothes. Other people said Starbucks should try to make their drinks better and cheaper, and make the workers happy, not worry about their clothes.

Maddie Mucklow works at a Starbucks in Seattle. She likes the new rules.

Mucklow said, “I think the new clothes rules were hard for the people at my shop. But the rules help us know how to look good for each other and show who we are.”

Since 2021, workers at Starbucks in the U.S. want a union. Starbucks and the union talk, but they have no deal yet. They will talk again in February 2024.

The workers' group said they told the job rules people that Starbucks did not talk about the new clothes rules.
