Trade changes between countries have made companies worried. Some big shops in the U.S. have already made prices higher, or said they will soon.
Donald Trump put new taxes on things coming into America from other countries. China did the same. Some taxes are not as high now, but many are still there for businesses.
Companies that buy things from other countries must pay extra money. This makes things cost more. The higher price usually goes to the people who buy the things. Some people think that new rules will help the country make more things here. But many things we buy come from all over the world. Experts say that these new rules will make prices go up in stores.
Some shops are raising prices because of trade problems. Here are some big shops that have said prices will go up:
Walmart is the newest store on the list. On Thursday, they said prices will go up because things cost more because of tariffs.
Walmart buys many things from America. But it also buys things from other countries. These things now cost more. Walmart said prices went up in April and are going up faster now. The biggest price changes will happen in June and July, when people buy things for school.
John, who works at the company, said that many things will cost more. For example, bananas from Costa Rica now cost 54 cents instead of 50 cents. Also, car seats from China at Walmart may cost $100 more.
Rainey told the news that they want prices low. But they can only do so much, like other shops.
The company that makes Barbie and Hot Wheels said they may need to charge more money because of new taxes.
The toy maker makes some toys in China. They said prices may go up on May 5. The U.S. and China made a deal to lower some taxes for 90 days. But taxes are still more than before.
Mattel said they will make about 500 toys in other countries instead of China this year. Last year, they did this for about 280 toys. For some popular toys, they will use factories in different countries.
In May, Microsoft made Xbox consoles and controllers cost more in shops. For example, the Xbox Series S now costs $379.99 in the U.S. It used to cost $299.99 in 2020. The Xbox Series X will cost $599.99, which is more than before.
Microsoft said on May 1 that some changes are hard. They said this is because of the market and costs.
Microsoft said the price of Xbox will change in Europe, the U.K., and Australia. Other countries will also get updates. Some new games will cost more money later this year, about $80.
Last month, Temu and Shein said prices are going up. They said this is because of new rules about trade.
In April, prices went up for many things. This was because of a rule about cheap goods from China. Shops used this rule to avoid paying fees. The US and China made a deal to help a little. But now, these goods still have fees. If they come by post, the fee is now 54%. It used to be 120%.
Before this help, Temu seemed to stop sending things from China. They used items in the U.S. instead. The shop, from China's PDD Holdings, still shows many things from U.S. places. These have "no extra import fees" for buyers. Shein says, "Extra fees are in the price. You pay nothing more when it comes."
The company Stanley Black & Decker said prices went up in April. They plan to raise prices again in July because of new taxes.
Donald Allan, Jr. said last month that they are changing their supply plans to lower the effect of taxes on customers and help the business.
Procter & Gamble makes things like toothpaste and toilet paper. They say that things may cost more soon. This is because it costs more for them to make these things.
