Six Nigerian nationals will be sent to the United States on Friday.

South African police said this.

The men were arrested in Cape Town in 2021.

Police say they cheated American women out of more than $6 million.

They did this through online romance scams.

The men will be given to FBI officials.

Then they will fly to the U.S. to face wire fraud and money laundering charges.

Police say the men belong to a criminal network called Black Axe.

Interpol says the group is part of criminal organizations.

These groups are responsible for a large share of the world's cyber-enabled financial fraud.

South African police say the men targeted more than 100 women in the U.S.

The alleged victims included pensioners and businesspeople.

They were reportedly drawn in through clever online relationships.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the six would be moved from a Cape Town correctional facility.

They would go to the city's airport.

There they would be handed to FBI and U.S. Secret Service officials.

Interpol said last month that a recent operation against West African organized crime groups led to 58 arrests.

It also led to the identification of 263 suspects.

In South Africa, authorities raided seven locations in Johannesburg.

These were linked to a syndicate running romance and investment scams.

Police arrested 39 people and seized $2.67 million.

They also froze more than 250 bank accounts, Interpol said.
