After Iran launched a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, reportedly in response to America bombing its nuclear sites, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a "complete and total ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. However, the ceasefire's status was still uncertain after more Iranian missiles hit Israel, even after the initial deadline for the proposal had passed.
As the sun came up, Iranian attacks made Israelis go into bomb shelters, leading to at least four deaths and eight injuries, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services. Israel has not yet replied to Trump's suggestion, which seems to give them more time to possibly strike back, even though Iran's state television said a complete ceasefire had started at 7:30 a.m. local time.
In Beersheba, emergency workers stated they found four bodies in one building and were still looking for more. The streets near where it hit were covered in broken glass and rubbish, and windows were blown out of buildings as worried neighbors stood outside their damaged homes. Additionally, three people were saved from nearby buildings.
The largest city in southern Israel was directly hit only a few days after its main hospital was significantly damaged in an earlier missile attack.
After Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in response to the American bombing of its nuclear facilities, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel ceased its own by 4 a.m. local Tehran time on Tuesday. However, Israel's military later informed its public on Tuesday that Iran had fired missiles towards it, approximately an hour after the agreed time.
After Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in retaliation for the American bombing of its nuclear sites, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." However, the possibility of a ceasefire remained uncertain after an Iranian missile attack hit Israel, which happened after the first deadline for the proposal. Israeli firefighters later reported finding four bodies in a building in Beersheba that had been struck by an Iranian missile.
Trump announced a "complete and total ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. This announcement came after Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar. Iran's attack was in retaliation for America bombing its nuclear sites. However, Israel has not confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the ceasefire, which was set to start around midnight Washington time, would officially end the war.
An hour after the first part of the temporary ceasefire, which required Iran to stop its attacks, Trump wrote: "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!"
Although Israel did not immediately confirm a ceasefire, there were no reports of Israeli attacks in Iran after 4 a.m. Tehran time. Before that, Israel had carried out heavy attacks in Iranian cities, a tactic it has used in past conflicts by increasing strikes just before ceasefires began.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on X that there is currently no agreement for a ceasefire or to stop military actions. He added that if the Israeli government stops its illegal attacks against Iranian people by 4 am Tehran time, they do not intend to continue their response.
His message was posted at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time. Araghchi then stated that the final decision on stopping their military operations would be made later.
The Israeli military did not want to comment on Trump's ceasefire announcement, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not quickly respond to requests for a statement.
In Israel, at least 24 people have died and over 1,000 have been hurt in the conflict. Furthermore, Israeli air attacks on Iran have reportedly killed 974 people and injured 3,458 others, according to the Washington-based group Human Rights Activists.
The organization, which has given detailed numbers of people killed in Iranian unrest, like the protests after Mahsa Amini's death in 2022, stated that among those who died, 387 were civilians and 268 were security force members.
Starting this past weekend, the U.S. has evacuated about 250 American citizens and their close family members from Israel using government, military, and private charter flights, according to a State Department official. It is believed that around 700,000 American citizens, many of whom also hold Israeli citizenship, are currently in Israel.
