Following Iran's limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, which was reportedly in retaliation for American bombings of its nuclear facilities, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Israel and Iran had reached an agreement for a "complete and total ceasefire." Nevertheless, the prospect of a ceasefire remained uncertain after an additional Iranian missile strike hit Israel, occurring even after the initial deadline for the proposal had elapsed.
As the sun came up, Iranian attacks forced Israelis into bomb shelters, leading to at least four deaths and eight injuries, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services. Israel has not yet officially responded to Trump's proposal, which could give them more time to strike back. However, Iranian state television announced that a complete ceasefire had started at 7:30 a.m. local time.
In Beersheba, emergency workers stated they recovered four bodies from one building and were looking for more. The streets near where the impact happened were covered with broken glass and debris, and windows were blown out of buildings as worried neighbors stood outside their damaged homes. Three people were saved from nearby buildings.
The direct hit in the largest city in southern Israel happened only a few days after the city's main hospital was significantly damaged in a missile strike.
After Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, reportedly in response to American bombings of its nuclear facilities, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete ceasefire. Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi had previously stated that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel ceased its own by 4 a.m. Tehran time on Tuesday. However, the Israeli military later informed its public on Tuesday that Iran had fired missiles at them, almost an hour after the agreed time.
After Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in response to America bombing its nuclear sites, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." However, the possibility of a ceasefire was still uncertain after another Iranian missile attack hit Israel, which happened after the first deadline for the proposal. Israeli firefighters reported finding four bodies in a building in Beersheba that was hit by an Iranian missile.
Trump announced a "complete and total ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. This declaration came after Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, which was reportedly in retaliation for America bombing Iran's nuclear sites. However, Israel has not confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the ceasefire, starting around midnight Washington time, would bring an "Official END" to the war.
An hour after the first part of the temporary ceasefire, which required Iran to stop its attacks, Trump wrote: "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!" He urged everyone to follow the agreement.
Although Israel did not immediately confirm a ceasefire, no Israeli airstrikes were reported in Iran after 4 a.m. Tehran time. This followed a period of intense Israeli aerial attacks on Iranian cities that stopped shortly before that time. In past conflicts, Israel has sometimes increased its strikes just before ceasefires came into effect.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on X that there is currently no agreement for a ceasefire or to stop military actions. However, if the Israeli government stops its illegal attacks on Iranian people by 4 am Tehran time, Iran plans to end its response.
His message was published at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time. Araghchi also stated that the final decision on stopping their military operations would be made later.
The Israeli military chose not to comment on Trump's ceasefire announcement, and the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet replied to requests for comment.
In Israel, the conflict has resulted in at least 24 deaths and over 1,000 injuries. Furthermore, Israeli attacks on Iran have reportedly led to at least 974 deaths and 3,458 wounded, according to the Washington-based Human Rights Activists group.
The organization, which has provided detailed figures on casualties from Iranian unrest, such as the protests after Mahsa Amini's death in 2022, stated that among those killed, 387 were civilians and 268 were security force members.
The U.S. government has helped about 250 American citizens and their close relatives leave Israel since the weekend. They used government, military, and private planes for these evacuations, as stated by a State Department official. It is thought that around 700,000 American citizens are currently in Israel, and many of them also have Israeli citizenship.
