After President Javier Milei stopped Argentina's federal agency (DADSE) from providing expensive medications for cancer patients, a secret Facebook group has started. This group connects people who have extra medicine with those who need it. Milei's strict budget cuts have greatly affected Argentina's public health system. The healthcare budget was cut by 48%, thousands of Health Ministry workers were fired, and programs for early cancer detection and vaccinations were stopped. This situation has caused big price increases for prescription drugs and private health plans, going up by 250% and 118%. Also, medical coverage for retired people has been much reduced. The lack of healthcare for everyone and the rising costs are making Argentina's healthcare system more like the U.S. system. Additionally, Milei's staff cuts have made it difficult to plan vaccinations and collect data, at the same time as the country's first measles outbreak in many years. These cuts have also led to a rise in sexually transmitted infections, with a 20% increase in HIV cases and a 50% increase in syphilis cases. Reports say that over 60 cancer patients have died because the DADSE medication program was stopped, and more than 1,500 patients are still waiting for their important medicines.
