Officials said on Wednesday that Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 92 people, including women, children, and two journalists. Israel is getting ready to increase its military actions in the area, as the war is now in its 20th month.
On Wednesday, two Israeli airstrikes hit an area in central Gaza. At least 33 people were killed and 86 were injured, including some children. Health officials think the real number of deaths is probably higher.
The Israeli army did not comment right away on the attacks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently said he is not sure if three hostages, who were thought to be alive in Gaza, are still living. This was a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said that only 21 of the 24 hostages believed to be alive were still alive.
The news made families of the remaining captives in Gaza very worried.
More violence happened on Wednesday, only a few days after Israel agreed to a plan to increase its actions in the Palestinian area. This plan could involve taking control of Gaza, keeping land they have captured, making Palestinians move to southern Gaza, and controlling how aid is given out, working with private security companies.
Health officials reported that two attacks hit a busy market in Gaza City on Wednesday.
Videos shared online reportedly showed the scene after the attack. It showed men who were found dead, including one still sitting in a chair inside a Thai restaurant where local people met. Several children were also lying still on the ground, covered in blood.
According to the media office in Gaza, journalist Yahya Sobeih was one of the people who died. He worked for several local news groups. He had recently put a picture of his new baby daughter on Instagram.
People who were hurt in the explosions, some with serious injuries, were taken to the nearby Al-Shifa Hospital. Zaher al-Wahidi, who speaks for Gaza's health ministry, told The Associated Press this.
Another local journalist, Nour Abdu, died while reporting on an attack at a school used as a shelter in Gaza City early on Wednesday morning, according to the media office. Officials at Al-Ahli Hospital said 16 people died in that attack. Attacks in other areas killed at least 16 more people.
On Tuesday night, a school where hundreds of Palestinians were staying was attacked. Officials from Al-Aqsa Hospital said 27 people died, including nine women and three children. The school has been hit many times since the war began.
Israel says Hamas is responsible for the many deaths because they use buildings like schools to operate from.
The war began when Hamas fighters attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 people as hostages.
To do this, Israel is calling up many reserve soldiers. However, they say the plan will be slow and will only happen after Trump finishes his visit to the area later this month.
If the fighting gets worse, more people will likely die. Israel already controls about half of Gaza, and if it keeps control for a long time, it could become a military occupation. This makes people wonder how Israel will manage the area, especially while it is thinking about following Trump's idea to take control of Gaza.
More than 52,000 people have been killed in Gaza because of the Israeli attacks, according to Palestinian health officials. Many of those killed are women and children. The officials do not say if people are soldiers or regular citizens.
